Prospects

There is an account of a person who was very down on their circumstances and in dire need. This person was calling around repeatedly to any and every one asking for donations, money, financial assistance. This random calling out happened to target a member of Christ’s church. Yes, the Christian was fully aware this person was just panhandling, begging, with only the idea of receiving money. But, this Christian realized this person needed much more than money in their life – they needed Christ. The Christian viewed this contact as a welcome opportunity to reach out and share Christ with -not a beggar or panhandler- but a soul in need of the gospel.
The Christian took this chance encounter of someone reaching out to them in mistaken expectation and used the situation to spread God’s word. We must grasp at such random encounters and take advantage of the unexpected and maybe only one-time contact to give lost souls what the most important thing is we have to give.
Read the account of the above story in Acts chapter 3 and gain a new perspective for those calls on our caller ID. Take down the names and numbers and reach out to offer the Word of God. Just because they did not leave a message, does not mean they do not merit a call back with an offer to read the Bible. So what if they are panhandling? That did not stop Peter. Think about it. A person just called the building and now we have access to their name and phone number. Peter knew what the lame man needed even more than the lame man did. And so do we.
