Becoming…
[By Sandra Steeves]
Luke 17:7-10 (NASB) – “… so you too, when you do all the things which are commanded, you say, ‘we are unworthy slaves; we have done only that which we ought to have done.’”
Romans 12:1 (NASB) – “…present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service…”
2 Timothy 2:20-21 (NASB) – “…be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.”
In a nutshell, our All is only the very least we can do in light of the great debt we owe our Lord and Master for Salvation. Given such a crushing perspective… what can we hope to accomplish in our service to Him?
…A Living Sacrifice
And yet, the path to giving our All can be found in the tiniest ways, in the most unexpected places as we focus to serve. It does not require gargantuan deeds. It means seeing what needs to be seen – the needs of those around us. It means doing, ourselves, what can be done or reaching out to others for a collective solution. Looking outward, not inward, and really truly seeing, will take our concentration off needs of self and put it on the needs of others.
There is so much still to learn from the story of Joseph, yet one clear thing stands out from his example. He saw those around him and responded to their needs, in spite of his personal situation. He did not exempt himself from responding due to the excuse of being a foreigner, a slave, a household servant, prisoner, or leader. Seeing, he acted. Joseph held a mind-set on his God which spilled over into service to others.
Yes, everything we can do in mind and body is, in the end, the very least of service we can do for our Lord. But one cannot utilize the opportunity that is unseen. Open eyes and willing hands to work can be easily employed, even from the tiny place we currently occupy in this life.
